Summer gardens

Summer gardens

Sun, warmth, color, tranquility, joy, rest, and relaxation are some of the words that come to mind when we think about summer. It is the perfect station to hang out and have fun outside. The good weather invites us to enjoy the terrace and gardens of our house. However, If you want to enjoy your garden you need to take good care of it.

During the hottest time of the year, plants need special care, especially considering that summer temperatures have gradually increased over the last few years due to climate change. Let’s take a look at some tips to take care of your garden and plants.

Kinds of summers gardens

When talking about summer gardens depending on the climate can be divided into two kinds: wet gardens and dry gardens. Wet gardens in summer occur in areas with high rainfall, which causes temperatures to rise despite the rains. It is important to control humidity to avoid the appearance of fungi.

For this type of garden, it is important to have nutrient-rich soils, implementing substrates and natural fungicides two or three times a week, preferably after watering the garden. This will allow the soils to adequately absorb moisture and keep pests away.

Dry gardens, on the other hand, occur in areas where it practically does not rain throughout the year. These spaces are more vulnerable to being attacked by pests, so it is necessary to water garden plants daily, preferably in the morning. Cacti and woody species, such as palm trees need less water.

Fertilizer and fungicides for your summer garden

Your summer garden needs adequate amounts of water and nutrient-rich soil. The ideal composition for fertilizer should have high concentrations of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. Conversely, the amount of calcium, magnesium, and sulfur should be low to stimulate flowering and prevent pest attacks.

You can use plants to prevent pest attacks. Lavender, basil, and rosemary have a pesticide function, as they help repel aphids. Mint is also effective against these insects, while geranium and citronella can be combined to repel mosquitoes. Good soil drainage is necessary to prevent moisture.

For your summer garden, it is best to choose species resistant to sun and dry climates. In this season, it is best to opt for flowering shrubs that fill your gardens with life and color such as European Michaelmas daisies, Indian shots, or Gazanias.

Furniture for your summer garden

To ensure that the furniture is appropriate for the space, it is important to consider that it will be exposed to inclement weather and dust, so think of durable, easy to clean, and maintain materials like wood, plastic, and metal that combine simplicity and aesthetics.

Depending on your needs or preferences you can design delimited spaces to enjoy a meal with friends and family, to spend time gardening, or simply a personal place to read, listen to music, or meditate for inner peace. For this, you need at least a table and chairs.  Any other furniture you think you may need can be rented or purchased.
